As Managing Director of EnerChemTek, Inc., Dr. Mauricio Dávila oversees all management activities of the company, including management of the firm's consulting services, and leads the effort to develop and expand these services.

Dr. Mauricio Dávila specializes in strategic planning, competitor analysis, valuation of companies, market research, and regulatory policy analysis in the energy and chemical industries. He has more than 12 years of experience helping major corporations in their strategic planning. His recent assignments as a consultant have been related to market analysis and marketing strategies for refinery products for an Asian company, including an analysis of new fuels specifications and emissions legislation in Europe, the USA and Asia; assessment of U.S. markets for some specialty chemicals for a Japanese company; US market analysis of some fluoropolymers for a European company; worldwide market analysis of a specialty fiber for a Mexican company; development of a strategy for restructuring a petrochemical state-owned company in Latin America.

At SRI Consulting, (formerly Stanford Research Institute), Dr. Dávila was a senior consultant and completed a wide variety of assignments for Latin American energy and petrochemical players. Examples include:

• Definition of a development plan for the Mexican petrochemical industry.

• Advise the Ministry of Energy in Mexico on issues related to the capitalization process of the petrochemical industry, including: defining the ownership structure of various complexes, defining rules to grant operating rights to minority partners, and entertaining actual discussions with potential minority partners (49%) of Pemex Petroquímica (the state petrochemical company).

• Assessment of corporate structures and strategies for a chemical company.

• Development of alternatives for petrochemical feedstock pricing.

• Evaluation of the contractual relationships between a company, its suppliers and its clients, and design of new contracts.

• Evaluation of antitrust issues affecting the restructuring of a state-owned company in Mexico.

• Petrochemical products price projection.

• Supply/demand/price outlook for petrochemicals in Mexico.

• Valuation of specific assets and whole petrochemical complexes.

• Assessment of investment opportunities for debottlenecking and upgrading of petrochemical complexes.

• Evaluation of options for aromatics production in a petrochemical complex.

Before joining SRIC, he had more than 8 years of diversified activities with chemical companies and investment banks. He worked as a technical assistant in the plastics and additives division of Ciba Geigy, in Mexico City. He also worked for 5 years as an investment banker for two of the major Mexican financial institutions (Banamex and Serfin), where he specialized in applying decision analysis techniques to evaluate industry risk and credit prospects, determining appropriate lending strategies for the energy, petrochemical and pharmaceutical sectors, and in analyzing the major sources of uncertainty in future industry cash flows and expected debt services. He also conducted valuation of firms with the M&A teams of those banks.

He holds a B.S. degree in chemical engineering from Iberoamericana University in Mexico City, an M.S. in chemical engineering (polymer science) from Laval University in Canada, and a Ph.D. in political economics from Laval University. He has also been a visiting scholar at the Center for Latin American Studies at Stanford University, where he conducted research on deregulation and privatization of state owned companies in Latin America (mainly in the natural gas transmission and distribution, and petrochemical sectors). He is fluent in Spanish, English, French and Portuguese, proficient in Italian and knowledgeable in German and Arabic.
